Jane is a Cumbrian born and bred, whereas Joe hails from the distant climes of Lancashire - both counties with their own distinctive foods where, when you sit down to dinner you are expected to "Eat 'till you're cold to live to be old!" Traditional cooking and good food has been part of our way of life since we first met forty odd years ago.

For twenty-eight years we had beensupplying good food to the people of Cumbria, mostly in the shape of Jane's home made preseves and baking, but also including Joe's very wide range of farmhouse cheeses, bacons and hams. We had several friends who also produced local foods and thought that it might be charitable for us to bring what we considered were just some of the basics of good living to those who were not as well provided for as ourselves.

These ideas gave birth to what is now Cumbrian Kitchen in our farmhouse just outside of Penrith when we decide that we would like to bring a taste of Cumbria to all those unfortunate people who cannot for various reasons live and eat amongst our beautiful hills and dales. We contacted out friends for foodstuffs to add to our baskets and hampers, had our son design this website and as they say "The rest is History!".

Seven years ago we bought our present small-holding eleven miles from Carlisle on the edge of the Lake District
